Our first Indonesian coffee in a very, very long time. So you know it’s special. This lot was grown AND processed by Voster Hutabarat and Anna Simanullang in the Gayo Highlands in Aceh (Northern Sumatra). Unlike a lot of Sumatran coffees, this couple processes their own coffee in addition to coffees from a small group of farmers in their village. The wet-hulled Catimor and P88 varietals (grown at 1500-1700MASL) are sun-dried on patios carefully, which really drives the quality of this lot vs a lot of other coffees from Sumatra which are processes poorly as a result of the climate. The attention to detail and love for what they do shows in a lot of ways. They pay above market rates to the farmers from whom they buy their cherries. They try hard to practice closed looped farming by raising goats to provide natural fertilizer and composting all the coffee cherry waste. This love shows in the quality of these coffees. Exceptional clean for an Indonesian coffee, we taste cedar, honey, orange and black tea.
