Author: G. Shulyak This form design was created at the Imperial Porcelain Factory in the mid-nineteenth century, with later additions, for the Heraldic Service. The artist used traditional Russian motifs such as multicolored floral ornamentation, found, for example, on the walls of the Faceted Palace in the Kremlin, Moscow. The delicate floral bouquets are accented by the golden edging which creates a lightness of effect, emphasizing the refinement and dignity of the whiteness of porcelain. This Russian Imperial porcelain Art Deco tea set is named in honor of a truly historical district in Moscow, located near the Moscow Kremlin, on the bank of Moscow River. This district is one of the oldest in the city, dating back to the early 1200s. During those early days in Moscow's existence, Zamoskvorechye stood apart from Moscow's center, both physically, and socially. For example, the district's residents, mostly merchants, normally went to bed early, when Moscow proper was still buzzing with life and started work very early in the morning, when the Moscovites were still asleep. Because of this calm and simple district, Moscow was often called a "big village."
